The Parkinson’s Awareness Association of Central Indiana, Inc. (PAACI) was created in 1982 to share and understand problems confronting Parkinsonian’s, their spouses, children, friends and others affected by the disease. For 25 years, PAACI has provided friendship, support and assistance to those struggling with PD.

The mission of PAACI is to be a major source of information and education about Parkinson’s Disease and a strong advocate for improvement of services, quality of care and research support for Parkinsonians in Indiana.

To carry out this mission, PAACI offers the following services:

PAACI History

Eddie Schulz of Indianapolis, was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease at age 38. Deciding he needed to learn all he could about the devastating disease, he began to search for information. What he found were bare shelves in libraries and an absence of printed materials. In 1981, knowing others had the same need, he and his wife Marjorie decided to organize an informal support group for other Parkinson's families. The goal of the support group was to provide education and information about Parkinson's Disease.

Eddie's commitment to sharing knowledge and developing programs for Parkinson's patients and caregivers has brought hope and practical help to many both during his life and after.

In 1982, the founders formally incorporated the support group as the Parkinson's Awareness Association of Central Indiana, Inc. (PAACI). In May of that same year, the Internal Revenue Service issued its determination letter recognizing PAACI as a 501(c)(3), a nonprofit organization.
